Governance

The radical changes in the political, administrative & fiscal landscape throughout the world have posed various challenges to the development processes. Accordingly, the international development assistance is also adhering to the measures aimed at investment led growth that can support national development priorities besides addressing the environment, social & poverty related challenges. Instruments like Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSPs) & Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are being promoted to rectify certain imbalances amongst the political priorities. In case of Pakistan, Governance Reforms including the devolution of power and responsibilities to accountable local governments for promoting good governance, effective delivery of services and transparent decision making is being valued as a step forward to achieve the above goals. In view of these realities, organizations promoting the agenda of environment & sustainable development have to go through a process of self-analysis so as to effectively place themselves in the new paradigm.

Taking cognizance of the situation, LEAD Pakistan has developed its Governance program . The program has the following objectives:

 To identify capacity gaps in maximizing the dividends of on-going reforms & instruments aimed at improving service delivery;

  To undertake & promote policy research & stakeholders’ dialogues  to highlight and facilitate replication of best practices in efficient & transparent decision making for sustainable development;

/ To promote strategic alliances & partnerships for developing synergies, experience sharing & knowledge management; and

To develop customized training and skill development packages for key players involved with governance issues & initiatives.
