Corporate Social Responsibilities and Partnerships

Corporate Social responsibility has become an effective strategy to involve firms, large, medium and small, to achieve sustainable development. A large number of firms are currently engaged in delivering social and economic benefits to local communities across the globe. The manifestation of this trend in Pakistan is also visible. Several multinationals (PKP, SHELL, UNILEVER) and local firms (the carpet industry, the sporting goods industry, the surgical industry) are partnering with government agencies, NGOs and UN agencies to further the social and economic goals. In particular, the firms are improving labour standards, protecting bio-diversity, and providing education and health facilities to numerous local communities in Pakistan.

LEAD Pakistan, as part of its commitment to promoting patterns of economic development, which are environmentally sound and socially equitable, has initiated the CSR Program, with the objective to promote socially responsible corporate practices in Pakistan.

LEAD Pakistan plans to initiate its program by initiating activities focusing at:

1.      Awareness raising to promote CSR policies, guidelines and best practices

2.      Support businesses to develop CSR strategies

3.      Assist corporations to integrate policy improvements with different programs like social auditing, reporting on social and environmental performance, establishing partnerships and improving internal systems and standards.

LEAD Pakistan plans to initiate its program targeting three tiers a) corporations who are in the process of formulating policies, b) are supposed to follow values of supply chain and c) those who have no value system in place. The program activities that we envision include policy research & case study development, experiential learning workshops, Interactive training sessions, stakeholder dialogue and consultation, study groups and partnerships/collaborations.

Strategic Partnerships forms an integral part of CSR, since its inception, LEAD Pakistan has been engaged in forging synergistic, cross-sectoral partnerships to promote its vision and mandate more effectively and to make its own operations sustainable. This approach has also been extended to the new areas into which the organization has grown, including the Management Development Program, customized training, research, and development dialogue and other communications.

Such partnerships entail collaborative capacity building and research that benefit from the strengths of each partner organization involved. They also help LEAD implement itself the key message it stresses in all its development initiatives: the need for stakeholders to respect one another’s priorities and to learn to work together for sustainable development.
