The Cohort is systematically engaged in a futuristic discourse on the nature and scope of development challenges for Pakistan in the next two decades, and the inter-sectoral linkages and  their bearings on development process. The Cohort will also contribute towards the purpose, design and structure of LEAD’s future cohorts.

First National Training Session of Cohort-14

October 14th -15th, 2009 

The first two day national training session for Cohort -14 was held at LEAD House, Islamabad. It was aimed at learning and thinking together about the future leadership challenges for Pakistan. 
The session started with discussion on the framework, various methodologies and approaches concerning future scenario planning. Instead of focusing on typical simulation modeling, the focus was to see how best simulation modeling is integrated with human thinking and behavior in various methodologies. A documentary titled ‘Climate Challenge: Voices from Pakistan’ was shown to the participants showing the effects of climate change on the ecosystems.

Trainings for Area Guides and Community Mobilizers

After delivering the first in a series of trainings on Rapid Assessment Survey for the IDPs of district Buner, LEAD Pakistan in partnership with Care International is conducting trainings for ‘area guides’ and ‘community mobilizers’ in Abbottabad. The 15 day trainings for a batch of 20 participants each started from 19th October and will end on 5th of November, 2009.
These trainings aim at enhancing and supporting rehabilitation work for the IDPs of Malakand Division. The conflict-affected youth aged between 16 to 40 years are being trained as ‘community mobilizers’ and ‘area guides’ to assist and work closely with various development agencies. 
These trainings will enable the participants to explore opportunities of working with the development sector and different public & private institutions, within their own area and across the country.

Climate Change: Exploring Strategies for Pakistan

Global climate is changing and it will keep changing. The climate change that the world is experiencing today is different from past. This climate change is at much greater pace than ever and the reasons are human activities that pose undue pressures of carbon dioxide and other green house gases (GHG) in the atmosphere. Consequently earth’s average temperature is rising day by day but the regional impacts of climate change are even worse than rising temperature.

International Training Session for Cohort -14 
Climate change needs proactive leadership; may it be dealing with its impacts, strategizing adaptive measures or chalking out interdependence between various sectors for mitigating the challenges faced by the communities. 
Keeping the above in mind, the international session of cohort 14 is scheduled in Beijing, China from November 8th – 14th, 2009. 
The theme of the session is ‘Leadership and Climate Change: Impacts, Innovation and Interdependence’. 
Apart from the issues based discussions and exposure visits, the Beijing session will serve as a networking opportunity for the cohorts. The associates will also get a chance to meet their counterparts from across the 13 member programs of LEAD.
