::: LRH Leadership for Reproductive Health

LEAD Pakistan, well known for its leadership development programme, is working on a two year project by the name of Enabling Effective District Leadership for Reproductive Health in Pakistan in partnership with the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. The project aims to create a model of leadership development and facilitation in two districts of Pakistan, namely Khairpur, Sindh and Lodhran, Punjab.

During a two year period LEAD Pakistan proposes to train two cohorts of 17 trainees each in both the districts. The trainees will be mid- to senior-level professionals, selected for gender and sectoral representation. Each

Reproductive Health Cohort will undergo training in three national sessions and one international session, spread over a period of two years. The fellows will form two district networks and engage on key RH policy issues in their respective districts.

The training curriculum will be developed through research and participatory discussions, and the trainings will focus on developing the leader’s visionary, holistic and practicable skills, knowledge and attitudes. The training will highlight the cause and effect link between Family Planning/Reproductive Health and Sustainable Development, especially the poverty-health nexus, public health and environmental determinants and the governance that underlies all policy formulation and implementation. Facilitation will include documentation (case studies, policy briefs, and newsletters), enabling information exchange, customization of future training by fellows, and facilitation in the policy issues.

The objectives of the project are to:

  • Evolve and deliver a replicable, practical and sustainable training model for district leadership development in RH.

  • Create and enable a network of district-based leaders for local RH improvement.

  • Demonstrate enhanced multi-sectoral, local leadership capacity.
