Pakistan is vulnerable to disaster risks form a range of natural hazards. These include floods, earthquake, drought, and conflict. Over the last decade natural disasters have increased in frequency and intensity, triggering policy and legal responses from national and provincial governments. With various initiatives like the National Disaster Management Act 2010, National Climate Change Policy 2013, and National DRR Policy 2013 having spurred policy makers and provincial governments into action, the next step is to contextualize the impact of natural disasters to specific sectors and geographical areas and to localize the response to them to relevant administrative units. Agriculture is not only the backbone of the Pakistani economy, it is among the most vulnerable sectors to natural disasters.
Therefore this project seeks to develop agriculture-based risk profiles of targeted districts and chalk out comprehensive plans for disaster risk management in the agriculture sector. The outputs of the project are:
1) Agricultural multi-hazard profiles and Agro Ecological Zone maps of districts
2) Digital databases
3) Hazard, Livelihoods, and Vulnerability assessments for target districts
4) Agriculture Disaster Risk Management Operational Plans and Implementation Guidelines for each target district.
