Pakistan’s vulnerability to disasters, especially those induced by humans or natural events, is a looming threat to its development ambitions and survival. DRR can help curb the rising socio-economic losses caused by disasters. Compliance with the national and international obligations, such as Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 can help generate collective response on DRR, for survival and development.

LEAD is increasingly involved in public policy engagement of stakeholders at local, national and regional levels through informed research in this area.

However, to place DRR on a more scientific footing with increasing use of scientific principles and latest technologies, one of the missing elements is the involvement of academic and research community in this enterprise. Its longstanding linkages with institutions of higher learning and research in the country enables LEAD to bridge this gap and thus create a more effective partnership for DRR in the country.
