The methodology
employed stresses experiential learning. It is
interactive and participatory, enabling participants
to benefit from each other’s experience and
expertise. Field visits, an integral component of
each session, offer exposure to the reality of the
development issues studied, and heighten the
sensitivity and grasp of the Associates by allowing
first-hand observations and interaction with the
stakeholders.
Panel
discussions and lectures, also organized as part of
the sessions, provide Associates insights into
various decision- and policy-making bodies and their
governing frameworks at several levels in society.
They are also valuable networking opportunities for
the Associates.
Modules on
topics such as leadership, communication skills, and
conflict resolution are incorporated in the
sessions, ensuring that Associates acquire the
skills they need to be effective leaders, and have a
chance to practice them in the context of resolving
development issues.
Each training
session consolidates the learning of the previous
session and discusses linkages between the various
sessions. A significant feature of the training is
its flexibility and adaptability to current
information needs.
As their
training approaches its end, Associates
undertake a project, which was previously a year
-long and cohort 12 onwards 6 months long,
referred to as a LEAD Associate Project. This
provides LEAD as well as the Associate to test
his or her capabilities, ingenuity and
perseverance for the purpose of promoting
sustainable development in real life.
After
Associates graduate, they join the pool of LEAD
Fellows, who are supported in various ways in
promoting change towards sustainable development.
