LEAD Associate Projects

As mentioned earlier, LEAD Associates complete a project, known as the LEAD Associate Project (LAP), as part of their training. The LAP concerns the Associate’s expertise or professional field and is conducted as a small contribution by the Associate for sustainable development in the country. The project also tests the Associate’s ability to confront the obstacles s/he is to meet in real life in efforts to promote sustainable development, and provides a guided transition from the encouraging environment of the LEAD program to the practical world of development challenges.

The projects are designed and implemented with financial assistance as well as technical counsel from supervisors at LEAD Pakistan.

The titles and locations of some past and current projects of LEAD Pakistan’s Associates are listed below:

  An orientation of journalists in environmental and development issues, Hyderabad

  Advocacy for the protection of Kinjhar Lake and dissemination of information about the Indus River, Hyderabad

  Study on the rehabilitation of the karez (underground water channel) system in Balochistan Province, Islamabad

  Implementation of green manufacturing practices at a local metal finishing concern, Islamabad

  Proposal for eliminating plastic shopping bags from the country’s waste, Islamabad

  A study on prospects, problems and strategies for sustainable mountain tourism in Hunza Valley, Islamabad

  Environmental awareness project for police officials and owners/drivers of public vehicles, Islamabad

Compilation of an environmental auditing training manual, Karachi

  A social audit of coastal communities of the Indus Delta and Sonmiani, Karachi

  Rehabilitation of Jambil River, Karachi

  Introduction of environmental accounting of projects of National Environmental Consultants, Karachi

  Development of a graduate seminar course on Environment and Sustainable Development in Business, Karachi

  Assessment of training needs of the tehsil municipal administration in Sindh for implementation of Agenda 21, Karachi

  Development of a strategy for environmentally safe disposal of spent catalyst generated by fertilizer plants, Karachi.

  A study on the relevance to the community of the curriculum and teaching methodology used at non-formal schools in Kasur and Chunian, Lahore

  Plantation of forest tree species in Khyber Agency, a tribal area, Peshawar
