Voicing Issues of Human Rights Victims in Pakistan

Recommendations

Before elaborating on the proceedings of the Consultation, it is pertinent to highlight the key points/recommendations that were determined as a result of the Consultation.

Based on the discussion during the Consultation, several significant recommendations were put forward which are noteworthy for the project on “Voicing Issues of Human Rights Victims in Pakistan”. These include:

  • The Human Rights agenda in Pakistan needs to be expanded as there are areas of human rights that are neglected such as water, food, environment, resource allocation – which need to given due importance.

  • In continuation of the point above, it is noted that in Pakistan, most human rights violations focus on violence and women. However, non-violent cases such as grazing rights, freedom of speech, water, food security are also important and need to be focused on.

  • Civil activism is missing in Pakistan. In such a scenario, other than focusing on cases involving people, case studies on issues and non-compliance need to be developed.

  • An ‘Annual Report on the Principles of Policy’ is not developed and the project can point to such issues in form of case studies.

  • Public interest litigation also needs to be reflected upon.

  • Need for some exploratory research e.g. on the State of Affairs in Human Rights in Pakistan. Such research would be a pre-requisite to extend the frontiers of discussion on a rich topic like human rights.
