Introduction
Pakistan’s human rights record
is generally regarded as poor by
domestic and international
observers. Even after two years
since Pakistan ratified The UN
Convention on ‘the Elimination
of all Forms of Discrimination
against Women’, the government
has yet to introduce changes in
the law required to improve
women's rights. To ensure human
rights in the country, Pakistan
needs a justice system that is
internationally recognized as
stable, democratic, and
economically viable.
For this purpose, LEAD Pakistan
with the support of the British
High Commission is implementing
a project
“Voicing Concerns of Human
Rights Victims in Pakistan” that
builds an innovative link
between key public leaders and
victims of human rights
violations to strengthen the
human rights mechanisms in the
country.
The proposed project is an
innovative means to raise
awareness about human rights in
Pakistan by creating an
interactive link between public
leaders and victims of human
rights violations by having such
leaders directly interact with
human rights victims in their
communities to learn of their
plight, concerns and issues.
These leaders will then advocate
the issues highlighted to
strengthen human rights
mechanisms in the country. |
