Presentation of Ecological Footprint Calculator at Bahria University
Islamabad, December 11, 2009

Students of bachelors and masters were oriented with the concept of EF through a documentary, LEAD Pakistan’s case study and a detailed description of the concept of EF.  The orientation session was followed by questions and answers session.  

In recognition of LEAD Pakistan’s efforts the Director, Department of Environmental and Social Sciences presented a souvenir to LEAD Team and committed to encourage 3-4 students to do their dissertation on EF during the next term.

Workshop on Ecological Footprint Calculator at Ministry of Environment
Islamabad, December 4, 2009

Workshop on Ecological Footprint Calculator at Ministry of Environment Islamabad was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment on December 4th 2009. Primary objective of the workshop was to train local organizations on the application of the EF calculator at their work-place and to evolve ‘greening’ strategies for their offices.

The workshop was attended by distinguished participants from prestigious organizations including Ministry of Environment, RSPN, A.E.D.B, SDPI, Bahria University Islamabad, R.C.C.I, CNFA-Pakistan, Pakistan Science Foundation, NCPC, Pakistan Wetlands Programme, IUCN-Pak, BHP Billiton, City FM 89 and LEAD Pakistan.

The overall agenda of the workshop focused on: understanding of the concept of Ecological Footprint; orientation to LEAD Ecological Footprint Office Calculator; strategies to conserve & manage the available resources and designing of Green Action Plans to mitigate Climate Change effects.

Presentation of Ecological Footprint Calculator at ‘The 2nd HSE National Seminar by ENGRO Chemical Pakistan Limited’
Karachi , October 1, 2009

The 2nd Consecutive National Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Seminar was organized by Engro Chemical Pakistan Limited in Karachi on October 1, 2009. The basic objective of organizing this seminar was to create awareness among the corporate world about the issues related to health, safety and welfare of workforce. The various discussions in this seminar mainly focused the best practices, innovative solutions and creative ideas for improved HSE compliance.

The seminar was attended by representatives from both regulatory and corporate organizations across Pakistan including institutions like National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), DuPont, LEAD Pakistan, Fauji Fertilizer Company, Attock Refinery Limited amongst others. This day long activity provided valuable discourse on topics such as Process Safety Management, Operational Excellence, Climate Change Mitigation, Renewable Energy Sources, and Construction Safety Management.

The EF concepts and framework was introduced in the first section of the presentation at the seminar. In the next section, an effort was made to sensitize participants in learning how to apply and benefit from the resource management tool within their own work spaces, following the LEAD’s case-study as an example.
