LEAD & Climate Change

Climate Change as we all know is a rapidly unfolding challenge of catastrophic global, regional and national proportions. Pakistan will be affected by the impacts far more seriously than is generally recognized by the policy makers and opinion leaders.

LEAD firmly believes that serious and immediate actions need to be taken by various stakeholders to fully understand and to respond to the unfolding impacts of climate change, requiring a realignment of Pakistan’s commitment towards MDGs, PRSP, MEAs. It is imperative that the challenges posed by global warming and climate change are better understood and preparations are undertaken for a coherent and long-term response in both realms - adaptation measures and mitigation strategies – and at all tiers of society form communities and local governments to national allocations and policies.

 

Given the strong linkage of CC with LEAD’s mandate and the scopeof the CC arena, we have taken a programmatic approach. We are aiming a sharpfocus in order to build a strong niche in the area and emerge as a strong mutli-sectoral player – at regional, national and local levels.

The core objectives of our Climate Change Programme are:

  • promote a more effective, sustainable and equitable climate change regime through capacity building, research and communication;

  • improve dialogue and exchange among among policy makers, civil society, media and business community in an effort to enhance understanding of the linkages between climate change and sustainable development; and

  • develop the capacity of decision makers,  organizations and civil society to create and communicate information on climate change.

  • to bridge the gap between development and climate change by disseminating knowledge
